Jasmine has been produced in China for at least 700 years. The original production of jasmine tea included plucking the jasmine blossoms just as they were beginning to bloom and adding them to the tea leaves at night to ensure the best infusion of the aroma and fragrance. In most cases, the tea was scented twice – using two different sets of jasmine blossoms to ensure that the tea is properly infused.
Zui Chun Hao Jasmine teas are made by scenting green tea with fresh jasmine flowers, which are picked during the day but stored until the evening when they open to release their perfume. The production of Jasmine tea is more about the jasmine blossoms than the tea itself.
most people also assume that all jasmine tea is made with green tea. And, while it’s true that jasmine tea was historically made from green tea and that much of the jasmine tea made today is still made from green tea, you can find jasmine tea made with black, oolong and white teas. For this reason jasmine tea is likely offered in more varieties than any other tea.
The quality of Jasmine tea is determined by the quality of green tea used as its base and the effectiveness of the scenting. To produce a high grade jasmine tea, the jasmine blossoms must be at the perfect stage. |
